Gibbs, Kenneth, and Jr. "Diversity in STEM: What It Is and Why It Matters." Scientific American Blog Network. N.p., 10 Sept. 2014. Web. 20 May 2017.

  • -This source comes from the website called Scientific American leading the reader to believe that it is a website solely focused on science. The article highlights what STEM is as well as diversity within it. The article firstly defines what STEM is and then moves on to describe diversity before finally putting the two together to create the title Diversity in STEM. We the reader can see this source as credible because the author is a highly acclaimed doctor but a downside to this article was it was written by guy. Meaning that the is more likely than not some bias to at least some of his arguments.

This article is mainly about how even though our workforce is changing we haven’t seen large increases in the diversity of STEM fields. We can believe this to be a credible source because the article highlights a number of studies. The article is also on topic and discusses the changing of the workforce as well as those entering into STEM related fields.

  •  This article by us news discusses some of the reasons girls may stray from entering physics fields. The article highlights how even though boys and girls math scores may be the same, girls doubt their abilities in math. The article attributes this lack of confidence of skills to the fact that there are very few female role models for girls to see doing physics or even STEM related jobs. It also found that motivation for math in 9th grade forecasts a interest in STEM jobs at the end of 12th grade. We can believe this source to be credible because it discussed a number of studies and research done on the topic. The main basis for the article is a study done in the US and in Australia which adds to its credibility.

Hallinen, Judith. "STEM." Encyclopedia Britannica. Encyclopedia Britannica, inc., 12 Apr. 2017. Web. 20 May 2017.

  • This article is by the popular Encyclopedia britannica. This site is very credible and is even used as a suggested site for the MPLS schools. The article discusses the history of the term STEM, tracing it back to 2001 when the term was coined by the National Science Foundation.  Although it is not updated to the most current history, it does give a detailed report of the creation of the term to its uses in daily life, to current laws to help STEM. I used this source when creating the timeline for my site.
