Diversity in STEM fields

Diversity:

The New Oxford American Dictionary gives us this definition for diversity:

the state of being diverse; variety: there was considerable diversity in the style of the reports.

(b) a range of different things: newspapers were obliged to allow a diversity of views to be printed.

As you can see from this image there is a huge separation between where white males are in the world of STEM and where everyone else is.

What is the cause? you may ask. It is a culmination of many things, from girls seeing a disproportionate number of males portraying science fields, to a lack of confidence in math, to expectations of their parents.
